We are in the second, Leo decan, of the Aries month with the thirteenth week; but moving a little ahead of the curve with Jack of Diamonds as the next natural progression of minor arcana with the major arcana, of which Hod is being reinstated.
What do awe and defense have to do with one another? I go to the inner child. We build up defenses to protect this true-self, which is ironically our strongest asset. Nothing is more powerful and formidable than an open heart.
Growing up, my friend Timothy Nicholson and I used to train with karate equipment by allowing the other to hit us, once. The relaxed body then became aware of the dangers and reacting naturally. Something beyond technique formed: wisdom.
A brittle man can be out maneuvered. An open man is not so easy to bamboozle: they obviously have a trick up their sleeve; and indeed we did. Learning to fight without defending yourself is the key of the Book of Five Rings, on how to be a samurai: a warrior chooses death instead of his own life.
You are going to die. That container better meld up with the permanent stuff or it will be a real death: without a real sense of continuance of who you are now.
Priorities dictate a framework.
For the card in meditation, I chose IRDL.
IRDL appears as a whimsical toy for dealing with the child-ego driving the ego-vehicle.
He is over eradicating external wars with internal vices. This is particularly a problem with men. When men get traumatized they can externalize their anger, fighting that type of trauma; while internally carrying that source of trauma, acting out the killer polarity of the victim.
There is no transformation without self-examination. It is the very cycle of guilt which perpetuates violence in the worst scenarios of abuse. There is a holy shame that can come from self-aware responsibility. However, guilt alone not only solves nothing; but becomes a way of self punishment justifying the behavior.
You do not only need to connect to the innocence of the child; but to connect to the innocence of its capacity to mimic abuse and get stuck; which brings in the feminine reflection VIHDL as well: who deals with rectifying the trauma response of having no boundaries. No boundaries means recreating the trauma by recreating the scenario.

The dead hero watches the madman drifter he uses as a walk-on, worshipping eldergods invoking an explosive, brain scrambling power, that keeps this drifter in a liminal state. This is exactly what makes the drifter a candidate for possession: the hero could only help and straighten drifter out with a visitation.
